Our Vision

Vision Statement

To serve the purposes of God in our generation and town of Alton
Our commission, command and call from Jesus to ‘Go and make disciples’. The call is so simple yet we struggle with it so much. We make so many excuses why it doesn’t mean us, we tell ourselves that it is not our gift or someone else is better. We have the greatest news and message mankind has ever received and the one who gave it tells us to proclaim it. This is what we were made for;

‘For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do’

Ephesians 2:10
When the writer of the book of Ecclesiastes decided to discover and determine his purpose in life he tried several things. He accumulated a vast amount of money, only to discover that wasn’t it. He sought power and attained it only to discover that wasn’t it. Next came a pursuit of pleasure. Then fame and celebrity status, and yet again that wasn’t it. At the end of all his efforts, searching and determination he writes these famous words: ‘Vanity, vanity, all is vanity’ one translation says, ‘All of this is like chasing the wind’ we were never created to chase the wind, we were created to join God on a mission. He calls us to roll up our sleeves and join him with our abilities, our money, our time and our passion. His desire is for His mission to become our mission. We have a choice in life, either we can chase the wind or get involved and join up with God on the mission to reach this broken and hurting world. How amazing to be able to say at the end of the day, today I teamed up with the creator of heaven and earth to change the world.

Acts 13:36 Speaks of the great Old Testament character David. It simply says,

‘And David served the purposes of God in his generation’

Acts 13:36
We are each called to serve the purposes of God in our generation. It is a challenge to us both individually and corporately as a church. Are we serving the purposes of God in our generation? Are we playing our part or are we simply spectators?

Jesus said to his disciples,

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’

Matthew 9v37
The harvest field is all around us; we don’t need to travel overseas or join a missionary organization. The truth is all believers are missionaries and God has already placed us right in the middle of the harvest field. Places such as our families, work places, the clubs we are involved, we are surrounded by those that don’t know Jesus. We have a message that has the power to change lives, to set the captive free, to heal the sick, to restore the broken and to bring hope. But sadly as Jesus stated the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, there are so few who take this incredible message and share it, there are so few that live it as though they really believed it.

Our vision is to be a people of God who serve His purposes in our generation.
